WHEN RON CEPHAS JONES COMMENTS ON YOUR INSTAGRAM POST
When Ron Cephas Jones (@cephasjaz) comments on your Instagram post, it makes your day!
I’ve been thinking a lot about Hulu’s teen melodrama done right, “Looking for Alaska.” The sleeper star of the 8-episode limited series is Ron Cephas Jones as Dr. Hyde, a wise and crusty professor who is a gay #Buddhist (if RCJ looks familiar, it’s probably because he played the role of Randall Pearson’s biological father in the series “This is Us”). After the death of someone I can’t tell you about or it would spoil it for you, Dr. Hyde said, “The Buddha said that suffering was caused by desire, we'd learned, and that the cessation of desire meant the cessation of suffering. When you stopped wishing things wouldn't fall apart, you'd stop suffering when they did.” These words hold special meaning for me.
I watched the episode last night, and am today painting lotus flowers.
In #Buddhism and #Hinduism the #lotus flower is the embodiment of perfection. It defines the capacity of the soul to expand and embrace the beauty of life with a clear conscience. The #lotusflower sheds its seeds and blooms at the same time. In Buddhism, it is said to represent the principle of cause and effect, wherein every action or thought is believed to cause an effect or reaction that can be experienced either in this life or in the future lives. This magnificent flower emerges from the dirty and unclean bottom of a pond, but still remains untouched and unstained by the dirt and mud surrounding it in the pond. This unique quality of the flower is believed to represent pure #spirit #rebirth #beauty #fertility #transcendence and #resurrection
