Diana, Princess of Wales (born Diana Frances Spencer) [1961 – 1997] was a member of the British royal family. She was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales (married 1981 and divorced in 1996) and the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. She served as a strong supporter of many charities and worked to help the homeless, people living with HIV and AIDS, and children in need. Following her divorce, Princess Diana devoted herself to her sons and charitable efforts, including raising awareness about the dangers of remaining landmines in war-torn Angola. Her tragic death in a car crash in 1997 shocked the world. She is remembered as the "People's Princess" because of her widespread popularity and global humanitarian efforts.
