Eleanor Roosevelt [1884 - 1962] was the longest-serving First Lady of the United States during Franklin D. Roosevelt's four terms in office, 1933 – 1945. After his death in office she continued her championing for child welfare, housing reform and equal rights for women and racial minorities. As a delegate to the United Nations, she played a major role in the drafting and adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
