Stacey Abrams
Stacey Yvonne Abrams (1973 - ) is an American politician, lawyer, voting rights activist, and author who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017, serving as minority leader from 2011 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she founded Fair Fight Action, an organization to address voter suppression, in 2018. Abrams was the Democratic nominee in the 2018 and 2022 Georgia gubernatorial elections. Though unsuccessful, she made history as the first Black woman in the U.S. to be a major party nominee for governor. Abrams continues to advocate for voting rights and fair elections, and is a prolific author of both fiction and nonfiction. In 2023, she began an appointment as the inaugural Ronald W. Walters Endowed Chair for Race and Black Politics at Howard University.
